74% of US Casualties of 12 Year Afghan War Occurred Since Obama Increased Troop Numbers


When Obama announced his first troop increase in February 2009, the US had been involved in the Afghan war for 7 years.  The US causalities in Afghanistan during that time were 569.  As of the end of 2013, the total US casualties had reached 2,162 dead American military personnel.  That means in the nearly 5 years of Obama escalation that an additional 1,593 Americans died, accounting for 73.7% of all of the casualties suffered since our involvement in Afghanistan.

As a result of the United States withdrawing its troops at the end of 2011:
In 2013, 7,818 Iraqi civilians were killed, higher than the 2008 toll of 6,787 (United Nations figures). In 2010, there were approximately 10 car bombs per month; in 2013, there was an average of 71.
